WEEK 2: Honor Roll Threesome Stand Out in High-Scoring Games

Rivalry, Double Overtime and NCAA Record Games Filled Week Two

Louisville, Ky. –September 12, 2016 – Week Two ended up to be a weekend of big numbers, with each of the three players who made the Paul Hornung Award Honor Roll accounting for more than 200 all-purpose yards catching, rushing and returning kicks.

The Paul Hornung Award, presented by Texas Roadhouse, is awarded annually to the most versatile player in major college football. For the first time in its seven-year span, the Paul Hornung Award is an associate member of the prestigious National College Football Awards Association (NCFAA). The winner of this year’s award and his family will be honored on March 7, 2017, at a banquet presented by KentuckyOne Health at the Galt House Hotel in downtown Louisville, Ky.

Week Two Honorees:

Arizona State’s Kalen Ballage set an NCAA single-game record with eight touchdowns – seven rushing and one receiving – in the in Sun Devils’ 68-55 win over Texas Tech in Tempe. Ballage took hand-offs from the tailback position and direct snaps in ASU’s Wild Devil set, accounting for 137 rushing yards on 13 carries, a 10.5 yard per carry average. He averaged a score for every two rushes. Ballage also caught a 39-yard touchdown pass and returned a kickoff 22 yards, ending the night with 207 all-purpose yards.

Pittsburgh’s Quadree Henderson accounted for 201 all-purpose yards and 22.3 yards-per-touch in the Panthers’ huge 42-39 victory against in-state rival Penn State. Henderson caught a seven-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter that gave Pitt a 14-0 lead and accounted for several first downs in Pitt scoring drives. Henderson’s 84-yard punt return in the fourth quarter set up the Panthers’ offensive on the Lions’ 10-yard line, leading to what would be the game-winning touchdown.

TCU’s KaVontae Turpin’s explosive efforts receiving and returning punts and kicks helped keep TCU in the game during the Horned Frogs’ 41-38 double-overtime loss against Arkansas in Ft. Worth. Turpin had a 64-yard kickoff return, a 34-yard punt return and a 57-yard reception that put TCU in scoring position. He posted a career-high 295 all-purpose yards and 22.7 yards-per-touch, with 126 receiving yards, 136 yards on kick returns and 33 yards on punt returns.
