Trio from Oregon, Stanford and Texas A&M Highlight PHA Weekly Honor Roll
Louisville, KY – October 14, 2013 – Two Pac-12 speedsters and the reigning Heisman-trophy winner combined for nearly 1,000 all-purpose yards and four TDs to earn Paul Hornung Award Honor Roll in week seven of the college football season.
The Paul Hornung Award, presented by Texas Roadhouse, is awarded annually to the most versatile player in major college football. The winner and his family will be honored January 28, 2014, at a banquet presented by KentuckyOne Health at the Galt House Hotel in downtown Louisville.
Fans can participate in the selection process by voting online as often as once a day for their favorite player on the Paul Hornung Award Watch List at votepaulhornung.com. Fan voting, powered by Texas Roadhouse, makes up the 17th vote for the Hornung Award; a national selection committee comprised of 16 sports journalists and former NFL stars will select the winner in early December.
Week Seven Honorees:
With De’Anthony Thomas sidelined, Oregon WR Josh Huff was pressed into kick return duty and responded with 103 yards on three returns, including a 57-yarder. He also caught six balls for 107 yards and a touchdown and rushed twice for six yards for a game-high 216 all-purpose yards against No. 16 Washington on the road. The game marked Huff’s fourth 100-yard receiving effort in six games this season and his 65-yard touchdown reception was a career long. The Ducks won the Pac-12 showdown 45-24.
Stanford WR Ty Montgomery earned Honor Roll status for the second consecutive week with 296 all-purpose yards in a 27-21 loss at Utah. Montgomery highlighted the night with three kickoff returns for 160 yards, including a 100-yard return for a touchdown. He added eight receptions for 131 yards and one carry for five yards. Montgomery is the first player with a kickoff return for touchdowns in consecutive games since 2009. His first two touches of the game resulted in 134 yards (34-yard reception, 100-yard kickoff return).
Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel threw for 346 yards and ran for 124 yards and two touchdowns as he rallied the Aggies past Ole Miss 41-38 in front of a frenzied crowd in Oxford. Trailing by seven in the fourth quarter, Manziel led A&M on two consecutive scoring drives, culminating with the game-winning field goal as time expired. Manziel, who injured his left knee early in the first quarter, accounted for seven first downs rushing, including a fourth-down run to keep the final TD drive alive and two first downs that led to the winning field goal.
