The Paul Hornung Award

Five Players from Four Conferences Named to Honor Roll

Week 12 List Includes Four First-Time Honorees

Louisville, KY – Monday, November 18, 2013 – Five players from four different conferences – the Big 12, MAC, Pac-12 and SEC – have been named to the Week 12 Paul Hornung Award Honor Roll. UCLA’s freshman sensation Myles Jack, who earned the honor for the second consecutive week, is joined by first timers Justin Gilbert of Oklahoma State, Jordan Lynch of Northern Illinois, Ricardo Louis of Auburn and Levi Norwood of Baylor, all of whom helped lead their teams to big wins this past weekend.

The Paul Hornung Award, presented by Texas Roadhouse, is awarded annually to the most versatile player in major college football. The winner and his family will be honored January 28, 2014, at a banquet presented by KentuckyOne Health at the Galt House Hotel in downtown Louisville.

Fans can participate in the selection process by voting online as often as once a day for their favorite player on the Paul Hornung Award Watch List at votepaulhornung.com. Fan voting, powered by Texas Roadhouse, makes up the 17th vote for the Hornung Award; a national selection committee comprised of 16 sports journalists and former NFL stars will select the winner in early December.

Week 12 Honorees:

Oklahoma State cornerback Justin Gilbert had two interceptions, one returned 43 yards for a touchdown; nine tackles; one pass break-up and one kickoff return for 41 yards to guide the Cowboys to a 38-13 win at No. 23 Texas. His interception return for a touchdown in the second quarter marked his second interception return for a score of the season. He also had a pick six at Iowa State. Gilbert now has eight non-offensive touchdowns in his career. He is the first Cowboy to record a multiple interception game since Andre Sexton against Mississippi in the 2010 Cotton Bowl.

UCLA freshman linebacker/running back Myles Jack, a starter all season on defense who saw action the second consecutive week on offense, scored four rushing touchdowns – the most in a game for a Bruin freshman – as UCLA stayed in control of its destiny in the Pac-12 South race with a 41-31 victory over Washington. Three of Jack’s rushing scores came in the first half; he already is tied for second on the UCLA freshman single-season touchdown list with five. In addition to his 59 rushing yards on 13 carries, Jack also had five tackles and one pass break-up in stellar duty for the defense.

Northern Illinois’ quarterback Jordan Lynch led the Huskies to a 48-27 win over Ball State to continue the Huskies’ undefeated season and hopes to land in a BCS bowl. Lynch finished the evening with 345 passing yards on 26 completions, 32 attempts with two touchdowns and zero interceptions, and ran the ball 20 times for 123 yards and another pair of touchdowns. With 468 yards of total offense, Lynch tallied his third-highest career total and second-highest effort of the season. He has rushed for a score in seven of the Huskies’ 10 games this year and has been responsible for at least one touchdown in 24 consecutive games for NIU.

Auburn sophomore wide receiver Ricardo Louis posted career highs in receiving yards, rushing yards and all-purpose yards on Saturday in Auburn’s dramatic 43-38 win over No. 25 Georgia. Louis hauled in a 72-yard touchdown pass that was deflected by a pair of defenders to give No. 6 Auburn the lead with just 25 seconds remaining. He finished the day with 131 receiving yards on four receptions to go with 66 rushing yards on five carries for a total of 197 total yards and the touchdown. He also was a member of the kickoff and punt coverage teams that limited Georgia to zero return yards for the game.

Baylor junior wide receiver Levi Norwood had a 40-yard TD catch in the first quarter, 58-yard TD catch in the second quarter and a career-long 58-yard punt return TD in the Bears’ 63-34, come-from-behind, blowout of Texas Tech at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. He finished the game with a career-high seven receptions for 156 receiving yards to cap off his 244 all-purpose yard effort. This was Norwood’s first career multiple-TD game and he is now the first Baylor player ever to record two punt return TDs in one season.
