40 Championship Races in Four Days for Professional and Amateur Cyclists

New Venues for Pro Road Criterium and Team Time Trial National Events

(June 6, 2017) – The USA Cycling Amateur Road National Championships presented by Papa John’s returns to Louisville for a second consecutive year, June 29-July 2, along with USA Cycling’s Professional Criterium and Team Time Trial National Championships. The three road cycling championship events feature 40 individual and team titles up for grabs for both professional and amateur athletes. The professional championships, held in Greenville, S.C. last spring, make their first appearance in the Derby City.

The inaugural installment of the “Real Deal Championship Boxing” series, branded as “Evander’s Tribute to Ali”, will be a part of the local “I AM ALI” Festival in honor of Muhammad Ali, one year after the champ’s passing. Headlining the card will be the always-exciting heavyweight contender Derric Rossy facing Puerto Rican Carlos Negron in a 10-round bout with the vacant WBC Continental Americas title at stake.

Louisville Sports Commission Announces New One-Mile Run/Walk

Will add a new, family-friendly option to the summer running calendar

Louisville, Ky. – May 17, 2017 – The Louisville Sports Commission today announced the creation of the Louisville Active Parkway Mile, a new summer running event for participants of all fitness levels. The event will take place on Thursday, July 20, in South Louisville starting at Southern Parkway and Woodlawn Avenue and finishing just before the entrance to Iroquois Park. This flat and straight stretch provides a picturesque backdrop for summer’s newest race.

NCAA Names Louisville Host City for Seven Post Season Events during Next Four Years

Louisville, Ky. –April 18, 2017 – The NCAA has selected Louisville as the host city for seven post-season championships to be held from 2018 through 2022; these events will generate an estimated $20 million economic impact for the community.

The awarding of these events is a result of bids submitted by the athletic departments at NCAA Division I member University of Louisville, NCAA Division II member Bellarmine University, and NCAA Division III member Spalding University in partnership with the Louisville Convention & Visitors Bureau and the Louisville Sports Commission (LSC).

Event Will Honor Michigan’s Jabrill Peppers as the Most Versatile Player in Major College Football

Louisville, Ky. – February 23, 2017 – University of Michigan Head Football Coach Jim Harbaugh and ABC/ESPN award-winning commentator and celebrated author Jeremy Schaap will be special guests at the seventh annual Paul Hornung Award Banquet sponsored by KentuckyOne Health.

Harbaugh will be the featured speaker and Schaap will be part of the banquet program honoring Michigan’s consensus All-American linebacker Jabrill Peppers, the 2016 Paul Hornung Award winner who played 15 different positions this past season for the Wolverines. The banquet will be held March 7 at the Galt House Hotel in downtown Louisville.
