Louisville Sports Commission Announces New One-Mile Run/Walk

Will add a new, family-friendly option to the summer running calendar

Louisville, Ky. – May 17, 2017 – The Louisville Sports Commission today announced the creation of the Louisville Active Parkway Mile, a new summer running event for participants of all fitness levels. The event will take place on Thursday, July 20, in South Louisville starting at Southern Parkway and Woodlawn Avenue and finishing just before the entrance to Iroquois Park. This flat and straight stretch provides a picturesque backdrop for summer’s newest race.

“With the success of our three-race Fall Runathon series these past seven years, we knew we wanted to expand our active lifestyle offerings into the summer months. Interest and participation in mile races is growing nationally, but Louisville did not have a one-mile race option,” said Karl Schmitt, Jr., president and CEO of the Louisville Sports Commission. “The Parkway Mile will provide a great opportunity for runners and walkers of all ages, speeds and fitness levels to come out and participate in a unique, one-mile course.”

The one-mile race begins at 6:30 p.m. on Southern Parkway at the intersection of Woodlawn Avenue. Participants will compete in one of 10 waves, determined by age and skill level. Runners looking to truly test their grit can compete in the Elite, Open, or Masters waves. Those looking to walk or jog with family and friends can participate in the youth or family fun miles. Registration is $20 per person until June 20, after which the price increases to $25. Registration is now open online at https://runsignup.com/Race/KY/Louisville/ParkwayMile.
