Karl Schmitt elevated to president and CEO of Louisville Sports Commission

October 13, 2015 – Louisville, Ky. – The Louisville Sports Commission (LSC) today announced the elevation of Karl Schmitt to president and CEO from his previous position as executive director. Schmitt took over as the LSC’s interim executive director in July 2009 and was named to that position on a permanent basis in January 2010. The executive committee of LSC’s Board of Directors made the announcement.

Winners Announced for 2015 Norton Sports Health Great Pumpkin 10K

Louisville, KY – October 3, 2015 – With nearly 1,400 registered participants, the Norton Sports Health Great Pumpkin 10K went off this morning under cool and cloudy conditions. The Great Pumpkin 10K was held in The Parklands of Floyds Fork; it is the second race in the Louisville Sports Commission’s three-race Fall Runathon Series.

Patrick Hynes of Louisville, Ky., won the men’s division in a time of 34:21.11, ahead of second-place finisher David Grieshaber of Louisville, Ky., who clocked a time 35:10.45.  Katie Casto Hynes, of Louisville, Ky., won the women’s division in 39:35.16, just moments before Andrea Doogs of Louisville, Ky., who finished in 39:44.73. Patrick and Katie Hynes were also the overall men’s and women’s finishers in the 2015 Louisville pure tap®, the first race in the Louisville Sports Commission’s Fall Runathon Series.

Greater Louisville Cross Country Classic to Feature 118 Teams from US and Canada

Numerous Top 20 Teams and Individuals to Compete at One of Premiere Courses in US

Louisville, KY – September 30, 2015 – The Louisville Sports Commission (LSC) will host 118 college and university teams from 23 states and Canada in the 14th Annual Greater Louisville Cross Country Classic (GLCCC), presented by Primal Sport Mud, on October 3, 2015, at E.P. “Tom” Sawyer State Park. The GLCCC will bring together many of the nation’s top college cross country programs as more than 2,700 athletes will compete at one of the largest college meet contested in the US in 2015. The field will include 28 men’s teams and 30 women’s teams from NCAA Division I, Division II and Division III, and NAIA that are ranked in the national collegiate cross country polls. The field also includes eight NCAA Division I programs that have won team national championships, most recently the Wisconsin Badger’s men’s team in 2011.

Winners Announced for Louisville pure tap® 5K

Louisville, KY – September 12, 2015 – With more than 1,000 registered participants, the Louisville pure tap® 5K went off this morning under cool and partly cloudy skies at race start. The race along Zorn Ave. followed the route your water takes every day as part of Louisville Water’s production of 120 million gallons of drinking water.

Patrick Hynes of Louisville, Ky., won the men’s division in a time of 16:37.60, edging second-place finisher David Grieshaber of Louisville, Ky., who clocked a time of 16:51.00. Katie Casto Hynes of Louisville, Ky., won the women’s division in 18:56.06, beating Jenniffer Burton of Louisville, Ky., who finished in 21:26.98. Katie and Patrick Hynes, who recently relocated to Louisville from New York City, are the first married couple to win the men’s and women’s division.

IRONMAN announces new, five-year IRONMAN® Louisville Contract

Norton Sports Health Renews Presenting Sponsorship for Duration of Agreement

 Louisville, Ky., – August 18, 2015 – IRONMAN and Louisville Sports Commission today announced a new five-year agreement that ensures the IRONMAN® Louisville triathlon presented by Norton Sports Health will be held in Louisville through 2019. The agreement also moves the event to the second Sunday in October from the traditional date in late-August.
