International Field of Cyclists Descend on Louisville for 10th Annual Derby City Cup Nov. 5-6

Weekend Showcases 60 Categorized Cyclo-cross Races for Top Juniors, Masters and Pros

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Sept. 25, 2016) – – The sports spotlight will shine on Eva Bandman Park in Louisville for international cycling the weekend of Nov. 5-6, 2016, as the Derby City Cup returns for a 10th year. Both days of cyclo-cross events for elite athletes will include Category 1 and Category 2 races sanctioned by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), the governing body for the sport of cycling. Derby City Cup is one of eight events in the country that offers C1 races for women and men on the USA Cycling Professional Cyclo-cross Calendar (Pro CX), the highest level of professional cyclo-cross racing in the United States.

Winners Announced for 2016 Urban Bourbon Half Marathon and Corporate Challenge

Louisville, Ky. – October 22, 2016 – With approximately 3,000 registered participants, the Louisville Sports Commission’s Urban Bourbon Half Marathon went off this morning under cool, sunny skies at race start.

Mike Purvis of Louisville, Ky., won the men’s half marathon in a time of 1:14:06.76, edging second-place finisher David Grieshaber of Louisville, Ky., who clocked a time of 1:17:18.52. Jamie Adkins of Owensboro, Ky., won the women’s half marathon in 1:22:52.34, just beating Angela Matthews of Westland, Mich., who finished in 1:23:10.97.

UofL’s Edwin Kibichiy Wins Louisville Sports Commission Cross Country Classic

North Central College (IL) Men and Hope College Women win NCAA DIII Pre-Nats

Louisville, Ky. – October 1, 2016 – University of Louisville senior Edwin Kibichiy won a hotly contested men’s feature race at the 15th Annual Louisville Sports Commission Cross Country Classic held at E.P. “Tom” Sawyer State Park, holding off Jskob Chobe of Middle Tennessee and UofL teammate Calvin Chemoiyo. A total of six college races were contested under ideal weather and course conditions, including the Pre-Nationals for the NCAA Division III Men’s and Women’s National Championships that will be hosted by Spalding University and the Louisville Sports Commission at Sawyer State Park on Nov. 19.

Winners Announced for Norton Sports Health Great Pumpkin 10K

Louisville, Ky. – October 1, 2016 – With a sold-out field of 1,500 registered participants, the Norton Sports Health Great Pumpkin 10K went off this morning under cool and cloudy conditions. The Great Pumpkin 10K was held in The Parklands of Floyds Fork; it is the second race in the Louisville Sports Commission’s three-race Fall Runathon Series.

Solomon Bennett of New Albany, Ind., won the men’s division in a time of 33:53.95, ahead of second-place finisher Sean Mendes of Louisville, Ky., who clocked a time 35:33.83. Andrea Doogs, of Louisville, Ky. – who finished second in the 2015 Norton Sports Health Great Pumpkine 10K – won the women’s division in 39:05.88, just moments before Alissa Bennett of New Albany, Ind., who finished in 39:50.05. Solomon Bennett was also the overall men’s finisher in the 2016 Louisville pure tap®, the first race in the Louisville Sports Commission’s Fall Runathon Series.

Louisville Sports Commission to Host Nation’s Largest College Cross Country Meet Oct. 1

15th Cross Country Classic at Sawyer State Park Features 3,000 Runners from 138 Colleges

Louisville, Ky. – September 29, 2016 – The Louisville Sports Commission (LSC) will host 138 colleges and universities from 29 states and Canada in the 15th Annual Louisville Sports Commission Cross Country Classic, which is tracking to be the largest college meet in the United States in 2016. The Cross Country Classic will be held Sat., Oct. 1 at E.P. “Tom” Sawyer State Park and will bring together many of the top college cross country programs in the nation, as almost 3,000 athletes are expected to compete. The overall quality of the participating teams and individual student-athletes once again will be strong as the meet will feature 29 men’s teams and 36 women’s teams currently ranked in the following collegiate cross country polls: NCAA Division I Regional and National, NCAA Division II National, NCAA Division III National and NAIA.
