Louisville Sports Commission and Norton Sports Health Join to Support Family Scholar House

Louisville, Ky. – September 18, 2014 – The Louisville Sports Commission and Norton Sports Health are partnering with Family Scholar House to help the organization collect items for families and youth who are looking to transform their lives through education.

Walkers and runners participating in the Norton Sports Health Great Pumpkin 10K can show their support by donating the following items:

  • Toilet paper/paper towels
  • Feminine hygiene products
  • Used sports equipment (baseballs, gloves, basketballs, etc.)
  • Mittens and gloves for the winter
  • Gently used clothes for kids (all sizes)
  • Diapers (all sizes)
  • School supplies

Participants can drop off items at Fleet Feet, located at 2239 Taylorsville Rd., now through Oct. 3 or bring them to The Parklands of Floyds Ford on Oct. 4. The Family Scholar House, a nonprofit organization devoted to changing lives, families and communities through education, will provide the items to the men and women taking advantage of its programs.

Down One Bourbon Bar & Restaurant to offer Special Bourbon Dinner for Urban Bourbon Half Marathon Participants

Louisville, Ky. – September 16, 2014 – The Louisville Sports Commission Urban Bourbon Half Marathon will pour into Louisville on October 25, 2014 and to finish it all off, Down One Bourbon Bar & Restaurant will offer a special bourbon-inspired dinner later that evening for a limited number of race participants.

The special Bourbon Half Marathon dinner is $60 per person and is offered in two seatings: 6 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. The price is all-inclusive of the four-course dinner, bourbon cocktails, tax and gratuity. Each seating is limited to 20 people and will include four courses paired with Evan Williams’ cocktails. Those interested can reserve a spot through the online registration at UrbanBourbonHalf.com.

Derby City Cup Cyclocross Event Registration Now Open

Two Days of Racing on Nov. 8-9 To Be Held at Historic Bandman Park
Louisville Sports Commission partners with Cadence Sports as event owners and operators

Louisville, Ky. – September 10, 2014 – On-line registration for the Derby City Cup (DCC) cyclocross event is now open. Riders can register at www.thederbycitycup.com.

The eighth annual DCC will be held November 8-9 at Eva Bandman Park in Louisville, site of the 2013 UCI Elite World Cyclocross Championships and the 2012 UCI Masters World Cyclocross Championships.

Winners Announced for Louisville pure tap® 5K

Louisville, KY – September 6, 2014 – With nearly 1,100 registered participants, the Louisville pure tap® 5K went off this morning under warm and partly sunny skies at race start. The race along Zorn Ave. followed the route your water takes every day as part of Louisville Water’s production of 116 million gallons of drinking water.

Mike Horan of Goshen, Ky., won the men’s division in a time of 16:44.71, edging second-place finisher Mike Deren of Louisville, Ky., who clocked a time of 17:07.54. Anna Schreiner of Louisville, Ky., won the women’s division in 20:12.65, beating Andrea Gibson of Charlestown, Ind., who finished in 21:45.01.

Donate Shoes – Save Lives
Louisville Sports Commission and Louisville Water Company partner with
WaterStep to collect shoes for water purification efforts

Louisville, Ky. – August 27, 2014 The Louisville Sports Commission and Louisville Water Company are once again collaborating with WaterStep to help the organization collect shoes to assist with its water purification efforts.

Walkers and runners participating in the Louisville pure tap® 5K on Sept. 6 can donate shoes at the Louisville Water Tower during packet pick-up on Sept. 5 or during the race on Sept. 6. WaterStep will sell the donated shoes to help finance its water projects, which are focused on saving lives at risk from waterborne illness around the world.
