After 150 Kentucky Derbys, Louisville Knows Sports

Winners Announced for Louisville pure tap® 5K

Louisville, Ky. – September 8, 2018 – With nearly 1,000 registered participants, the eighth annual Louisville pure tap® 5K went off this morning under cool and cloudy conditions at race start. Race participants started and finished at the Louisville Water Tower, home of Louisville’s drinking water, and followed a course that ran east and west on River Road.

David Grieshaber of Louisville, Ky., won the men’s division in a time of 16:27.33, ahead of second-place finisher Andrew Carnes of Louisville, Ky., who clocked a time of 16:44.01. Angela Musk of Louisville, Ky. won the women’s division in 17:56.61, beating Brittany Busse of Tell City, Ind., who finished in 18:20.70.

In addition, youth from the Kids Finish First presented by KentuckyOne Health program kicked off their half marathon training at the Louisville pure tap® 5K’s start line, with participants from the YMCA of Greater Louisville, Girls Scouts of Kentuckiana, and Louisville Metro Parks. The program was launched in 2012 as a pilot project between the YMCA and the Louisville Sports Commission to encourage local children between the ages of five and 14 to take steps toward an active lifestyle by training to complete a half marathon – 13.1 miles – in small increments. The kids will finish their training on Oct. 20 at the Louisville Sports Commission’s Urban Bourbon Half Marathon.

  • First Place: David Grieshaber, of Louisville, Ky., with a time of 16:27.33
  • Second Place: Andrew Carnes of Louisville, Ky., with a time of 16:44.01
  • Third Place: Ali Faraji-Tajrishi of Louisville, Ky., with a time of 17:11.61

WOMEN’S DIVISION

  • First Place: Angela Musk, of Louisville, Ky., with a time of 17:56.61
  • Second Place: Brittany Busse of Tell City, Ind., with a time of 18:20.70
  • Third Place: Sarah Schuster of Louisville, Ky., with a time of 18:53.81

The Louisville pure tap® 5k is the first race of the Louisville Sports Commission Fall Runathon, a series of three fall running races that provides unique courses and quality experiences for runners and walkers.
