After 150 Kentucky Derbys, Louisville Knows Sports

Winners Announced for Louisville pure tap® 5K


Louisville, Ky. – September 9, 2017 – With nearly 1,000 registered participants, the Louisville pure tap® 5K went off this morning under cool and sunny conditions at race start. Race participants started and finished at the Louisville Water Tower, home of Louisville’s drinking water, and followed a course that ran east and west on River Road.

Michael Eaton of Louisville, Ky., won the men’s division in a time of 14:38.86, ahead of second-place finisher Andrew Carnes of Louisville, Ky., who clocked a time of 15:08.59. Chelsea Vane of Ellicott City, Md., won the women’s division in 19:06.55, beating Jaydon Cirincione of Georgetown, Ind., who finished in 20:24.67.

In addition, youth from the Kids Finish First presented by KentuckyOne Health program kicked off their half marathon training at the Louisville pure tap® 5K’s start line. The program was launched in 2012 as a pilot project between the YMCA of Greater Louisville and the Louisville Sports Commission to encourage local children between the ages of five and 14 to take steps toward an active lifestyle by training to complete a half marathon – 13.1 miles – in small increments. The kids will finish their training on Oct. 21 at the Louisville Sports Commission’s Urban Bourbon Half Marathon.

The Louisville pure tap® 5k is the first race of the Louisville Sports Commission Fall Runathon, a series of three fall running races that provides unique courses and quality experiences for runners and walkers. Following the Louisville pure tap® 5k is the second annual Norton Sports Health Great Pumpkin 10k, set to take place on Sept. 30 in the Parklands of Floyds Fork.
