Louisville, Ky. – April 15, 2026 – Following today’s announcement that Louisville will host the 2028 U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Gymnastics, the Louisville Sports Commission also unveiled Louisville 2028, the local organizing committee responsible for working with USA Gymnastics to plan and deliver Gymnastics City USA 2028.

Louisville 2028 will partner with USA Gymnastics to deliver a 15-day celebration of the sport, culminating in the Olympic Trials and featuring community activations and fan experiences, welcoming athletes, coaches and fans from across the country and around the world from June 5–19, 2028.

The committee is being led by the Louisville Sports Commission in partnership with state and local stakeholders, venue partners and the business community. Together, they are ensuring a coordinated, community-wide effort to deliver a world-class experience.

“Gymnastics City USA 2028 represents a defining opportunity for our community,” said Greg Fante, President & CEO of the Louisville Sports Commission. “Louisville 2028 brings together an exceptional group of partners and leaders who are committed to delivering an unforgettable experience for athletes, fans and the entire gymnastics community. From competition to community engagement, our goal is to showcase Louisville on a global stage while creating lasting impact for our city.”

The announcement reflects strong support at the state level and highlights Kentucky’s continued investment in attracting world-class events.

“Kentucky has broken tourism records for three years in a row because of the unmatched hospitality and once-in-a-lifetime experiences visitors find here,” Gov. Andy Beshear said. “Now, for the first time ever, we’re hosting fans from around the world for the Olympic trials ahead of the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. This is our moment – as Kentuckians and as Americans – to show the best of who we are.”

Building on that momentum, state leaders pointed to the lasting impact this event will have on young people and communities across the Commonwealth.

“Many of our heroes, when we are young, are athletes because they provide us hope and inspiration,” said Lt. Governor Jacqueline Coleman. “As a teenager, I remember the 1996 U.S. Olympic Gymnastics team and stars like Shannon Miller and Dominique Dawes. I am thrilled that young people in Kentucky will get an up-close view of the next generation of athletes at the 2028 U.S Olympic Trials. Louisville, with our rich sports history and renowned hospitality, is a worthy host for such an iconic event. We cannot wait to welcome the world to Kentucky.”

Louisville officials emphasized the city’s readiness to welcome the nation, highlighting its experience hosting major events and the opportunity to shine on a global stage.

“As we prepare to welcome the world to Louisville for the 152nd Kentucky Derby, we’re excited to build on our reputation as one of the best places in the country to host iconic sporting events by welcoming the 2028 US Gymnastics Olympic Trials,” said Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg. “We are grateful to USA Gymnastics for selecting Louisville and look forward to welcoming fans from all over the country to see some of the best athletes in the world and experience Louisville’s one-of-a-kind hospitality.”

Tourism leaders echoed that enthusiasm, underscoring the significant visitor impact and the chance to introduce new audiences to Louisville’s culture and hospitality.

“While the spotlight will be on America’s top gymnasts, Gymnastics City USA 2028 also shines a light on Louisville,” said Cleo Battle, President & CEO of Louisville Tourism. “These two weeks will drive strong economic impact for our hotels, restaurants and attractions, while serving as a gateway for new visitors discovering our city for the first time. It’s a powerful opportunity to share Louisville’s unique culture, culinary scene and bourbon heritage with a nationwide audience.”

Gymnastics City USA 2028 will bring together elite and developmental athletes across multiple disciplines, while also featuring national-level competitions, educational programming and fan engagement opportunities throughout the city. Venues including the KFC Yum! Center and the Kentucky International Convention Center will anchor the event; additional activations and experiences are planned across downtown Louisville.

The event is expected to generate significant economic impact and national exposure, while reinforcing Louisville’s reputation as a premier destination for major sporting events.
