Louisville Sports Commission partners with Catholic Charities to collect winter items for refugees

Louisville, Ky. – October 22, 2014 – The Louisville Sports Commission is joining forces with Catholic Charities for the third year in a row to help the agency collect winter items for nearly 1,000 newly arrived refugees.

Registered runners and walkers for the Louisville Sports Commission’s Urban Bourbon Half Marathon are being asked to donate winter coats and blankets, as well as other winter items (gloves, hats and scarves) for refugees who were recently resettled in Louisville. Warm clothing and blankets should be new or gently used and are needed for all ages and both sexes.

Two Former Paul Hornung Award Winners Square Off in Huge NFC East Game

Eagles’ CB Brandon Boykin Faces Giants’ WR Odell Beckham Sunday Night in Philly

Louisville, KY – Friday, October 10, 2014 – Two former Paul Hornung Award winners – Philadelphia Eagles slot corner Brandon Boykin and New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. – square off Sunday night in Philadelphia in a huge NFL – NFC East Division contest. Third-year NFL player Boykin is a key member of the Eagles’ nickle and dime package defense, matching up inside against opponents’ slot receivers. Beckham, a rookie, saw his first action in the NFL last week following a pre-season hamstring injury. He caught four passes for 44 yards and the game-winning TD in the Giants’ win over Atlanta.

Winners Announced for Norton Sports Health Great Pumpkin 10K

Louisville, KY – October 4, 2014 – With nearly 1,500 registered participants, the Norton Sports Health Great Pumpkin 10K went off this morning under sunny, fall-like conditions. The Great Pumpkin 10K was held in The Parklands of Floyds Fork; it is the second race in the Louisville Sports Commission’s three-race Fall Runathon Series.

Andy Meirose of Louisville, Ky., won the men’s division in a time of 38:31.99, just moments before second-place finisher Tony Cotner of Louisville, Ky., who clocked a time of 38:41.58. Andrea Doogs of Louisville, Ky., won the women’s division in 41:26.09, ahead of Andrea Gibson of Charlestown, Ind., who finished in 44:01.89. Doogs also won the 2013 inaugural Norton Sports Health Great Pumpkin 10K.

Louisville Sports Commission and Norton Sports Health Join to Support Family Scholar House

Louisville, Ky. – September 18, 2014 – The Louisville Sports Commission and Norton Sports Health are partnering with Family Scholar House to help the organization collect items for families and youth who are looking to transform their lives through education.

Walkers and runners participating in the Norton Sports Health Great Pumpkin 10K can show their support by donating the following items:

  • Toilet paper/paper towels
  • Feminine hygiene products
  • Used sports equipment (baseballs, gloves, basketballs, etc.)
  • Mittens and gloves for the winter
  • Gently used clothes for kids (all sizes)
  • Diapers (all sizes)
  • School supplies

Participants can drop off items at Fleet Feet, located at 2239 Taylorsville Rd., now through Oct. 3 or bring them to The Parklands of Floyds Ford on Oct. 4. The Family Scholar House, a nonprofit organization devoted to changing lives, families and communities through education, will provide the items to the men and women taking advantage of its programs.
