Preparations at Churchill Downs are reaching fever pitch, from the trainers readying the thoroughbreds for the starting gate, to the kitchen and bar managers gearing up to serve all those slices of Derby Pie® and mint juleps.

Louisville Sports Commission’s Fall Runathon Returns with Splash of Bourbon

Louisville, Ky. – April 11, 2019 – The Louisville Sports Commission’s (LSC) seventh annual Fall Runathon – a popular three-race running series anchored by the spirited Urban Bourbon Half Marathon (UBHM) presented by Jim Beam® – returns in 2019 by popular demand. Applications Now Being Accepted for 2019 Kentucky Sports Hall of Fame

Louisville, Ky. – April 9, 2019 – The Louisville Sports Commission is accepting nominations for the Kentucky Sports Hall of Fame fueled by the Kentucky Lottery (KSHOF) through May 6, 2019. Eligibility and selection criteria and nomination forms can be accessed online at KySportsHOF.com.

Nominations received by May 6 that meet the Selection Criteria will be placed in a pool with previous submissions for consideration for the KSHOF Class of 2019.

Louisville’s KFC Yum Center plays host to 2019 GK U.S. Classic

INDIANAPOLIS, April 2, 2019 – On July 20, 2019, the GK U.S. Classic will make its first appearance at the KFC Yum Center in Louisville, Ky. The GK U.S. Classic features athletes competing on the junior and senior levels and is the last opportunity for female gymnasts to qualify for the U.S. Championships, the national championships for men’s and women’s gymnastics. Gymnasts who have already qualified to nationals use the GK U.S. Classic as a final tune-up for the U.S. Championships. In addition, the GK Hopes Championships, which features young, aspiring female gymnasts who are just below the elite level, is held the day before the GK U.S. Classic. All-session tickets that include both the GK U.S. Classic and GK Hopes Championships are on sale now.

Purdue’s Rondale Moore Named 2018 Paul Hornung Award Winner Presented by Texas Roadhouse

Award Presented Annually Since 2010 to Most Versatile Player in Major College Football

Louisville, Ky. – December 5, 2018 – Purdue true freshman slot receiver/return specialist Rondale Moore, who set a school record for all-purpose yards in his first college game on his way to Big Ten Receiver and Freshman of the Year honors, was named winner of the ninth annual Paul Hornung Award presented by Texas Roadhouse. The Louisville Sports Commission and Paul Hornung present the award to the most versatile player in major college football.
