Urban Bourbon Half Marathon Medal Unveiled

Louisville, Ky. – June 27, 2014 The Louisville Sports Commission today unveiled the medal for its Urban Bourbon Half Marathon. The participant medal features a replica of a bottle of Evan Williams, one of the world’s top selling bourbons.

“We wanted to fully embrace all things bourbon in our half marathon, and the medal is just one of the many experiential features this race will offer. To our knowledge, this is the first time that a half marathon medal has been an exact replica of a bourbon bottle,” said Karl Schmitt, executive director of the Louisville Sports Commission. “We developed a great partnership with Heaven Hill at last year’s race, and it made perfect sense to continue the relationship this year. Especially since our race finishes right in front of the Evan Williams Bourbon Experience.”

“With the growth of the bourbon industry and bourbon tourism, we are excited that each runner will take a piece of Evan Williams home with them in the medal,” said Josh Hafner, communications manager at Heaven Hill Distilleries. “We have partnered with the Louisville Sports Commission in the past and respect what they are doing with the half marathon. We’re thrilled to showcase our Evan Williams Bourbon Experience to the race’s runners with its placement along the race’s finish line.”

This year’s medal is the first in a long line of medals that will be based on iconic bourbon brands. Future years’ medals will continue to represent Kentucky’s bourbon heritage.

The Urban Bourbon Half Marathon celebrates and promotes 200 years of Louisville and Kentucky distilling history, combined with a half marathon route that showcases one of Louisville’s most scenic parks and provides a distinct downtown running experience.

The Urban Bourbon Half Marathon is the final race in the Louisville Sports Commissions Fall Runathon. Runners must be 21 or older by October 25, 2014, to participate. The Fall Runathon kicks off with two family-friendly races that offer Louisville-centric routes. The fourth annual Louisville pure tap® 5k will be held September 6 at the historic Louisville Water Tower. The Norton Sports Health Great Pumpkin 10k returns for its second year on October 4 at the Parklands at Floyds Fork.
