Greater Louisville Sports Commission FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Papa John's Named Title Sponsor of the US Gran Prix of Cyclocross Derby City Cup in Louisville
Event represents first ever UCI sanctioned cyclocross in the state of Kentucky(Louisville, KY) -- Organizers of the US Gran Prix of Cyclocross (USGP) today announced that Louisville-based Papa John's has signed on as Title Sponsor of the USGP Derby City Cup presented by Toyota to be held October 27-28 in Louisville, Kentucky. The U.S. Gran Prix of Cyclocross (USGP) is the Official National Cyclocross Team Selection Series of USA Cycling. Taking place at Champion's Park, the USGP Papa John's Derby City Cup presented by Toyota races will be the first and second stops of the six race national series. "The US Gran Prix of Cyclocross is thrilled to have Papa John's on board as Title Sponsor of the US Gran Prix of Cyclocross - Derby City Cup," said Bruce Fina, Executive Director, US Gran Prix of Cyclocross. "We have been completely blown away by the tremendous support and excitement shown by Papa John's, the local cycling community and the Greater Louisville Sports Commission in kicking-off the series in Kentucky. I can't wait to bring the best cyclocross action in America to Louisville this fall." The Papa John's Derby City Cup presented by Toyota will be the first ever UCI sanctioned cyclocross event in the state of Kentucky . "The Greater Louisville Sports Commission is glad to welcome the US Gran Prix of Cyclocross to Louisville this October with the Papa John's Derby City Cup," said Diane McGraw, Executive Director, Greater Louisville Sports Commission. " Louisville has developed into a great cycling town and along with a great corporate partner in Papa John's, we are proud to be able to host the premier cyclocross series in the Unites States." The USGP Papa John's Derby City Cup presented by Toyota will be held on a cyclocross course set up at Champion's Park. Designed by USGP Executive Director Bruce Fina and local 'cross guru Bob Bobrow, the course is comprised of fast straights, twisty turns, sand, several run-ups, a flyover, a fast finish and a challenging section dubbed the "Trail of Tears." The USGP kicks off October 27 - 28 in Louisville, Kentucky with the Papa John's Derby City Cup presented by Toyota. The second stop will be the Mercer Cup presented by Knapp's Cyclery in West Windsor, NJ on November 17-18. The series will then return to Portland, Oregon for the fourth consecutive year for the Toyota Stumptown Cup final races on December 1-2.
