Golden Ticket Winner Drawn on Great Day Live!

Louisville, Ky. – April 22, 2014 – John Sackfield, who purchased his ticket soon after sales began, is the winner of the Louisville Sports Commission’s fourth annual Golden Ticket raffle.

Sackfield purchased one of 350 raffle tickets for $100 and won the Golden Ticket grand prize – two tickets to each of the following sporting events:

  • 2014 Kentucky Derby and Oaks
  • 2014 PGA Championship
  • All 2014-15 University of Kentucky regular season home basketball and football games
  • All 2014-15 University of Louisville women’s regular season home basketball games
  • 2014 Quaker State 400 at the Kentucky Speedway
  • 2014 Louisville Bats regular season home games
  • 2015 Paul Hornung Award Banquet.

The winning ticket was pulled from the 350 entries on April 22 on Great Day Live! on WHAS-11 by Brett Sterba, director of the 2014 PGA Championship.

“I was so surprised when I got the call,” Sackfield said when contacted by phone immediately following the drawing. “This is fantastic. I can’t believe I actually won.”

Sackfield attended the University of Kentucky and is a University of Louisville season ticket holder who describes himself as, “a fan of both universities.” Since he currently has UofL season tickets, he choose UK to complement the rest of his sporting event options.

John is in for an exciting year. I think he will soon find himself to be very popular among his family and friends,” said Karl Schmitt, executive director of the Louisville Sports Commission. “With the wide variety of sports represented in the Golden Ticket raffle, he has definitely won the ultimate sports package.”

The raffle was conducted by the Louisville Sports Commission. A total of 350 raffle tickets were sold at $100 each. Tickets are donated by rights holders, Louisville Sports Commission board members and other supporters of the organization. Proceeds of the raffle go toward helping the commission attract more sporting events to Louisville.
