Louisville Water and Louisville Sports Commission Launch the “pure tap® 5K"
On-line registration is underway
Louisville, KY – October 19, 2011 – Louisville Sports Commission and Louisville Water have partnered to offer a "family-friendly" race on November 12. The “pure tap® 5k" will take runners and walkers along the city's waterfront and conclude at the Belvedere. The pure tap® 5k is a complement to the Louisville Sports Commission's new half-marathon, which is being held the same day. The events offer runners and walkers the opportunity to choose their distance.
The 5K race begins at 7:30 at Floyd and Witherspoon. Participation is $20 per person and registration is now open online at www.louisvillepuretap5k.com.
pure tap® 5K runners and walkers will receive a virtual goodie bag and commemorative t-shirt prior to the race and pure tap®, Power-Ade and fruit during and after the race. 5K participants are encouraged to stay downtown to cheer on the half marathon runners and join in the post-race party on the Belvedere that begins at 9 a.m.
“pure tap® is what we deliver every day," said Louisville Water President & CEO Greg Heitzman, "and we're proud of the pure tap® program's success, from its award-winning taste and environmental stewardship to its educational platform that teaches thousands of students. It's a perfect fit to extend the “pure tap®" brand to an exciting running event which connects our product to the community we serve."
"We've enjoyed a long term and successful partnership with Louisville Water as they have provided their quality product for so many of our sporting events and activities," said Louisville Sports Commission Executive Director Karl Schmitt. "It just makes sense for us to come together to develop this new race that honors this brand as well as the Mayor's charge to develop events that promote healthy lifestyles."
"This new event will be a great partnership and a super addition to a healthier quality of life for our citizens," said Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer. "We hope to make healthier Louisvillians as abundant as the great tasting water supply we have been able to count on for many years."
