Greater Louisville Sports Commission Helps USA Ryder Cup Team Win with Mojo Cup
The idea of presenting USA Ryder Cup Captain Paul Azinger with a Mojo Cup was well received around the State of Kentucky with all major cities taking part in the Cup presentation video. For the first time in years, the USA team defeated it’s European rivals and the dedicated Kentucky fan base with it’s “13th Man” slogan aided in the victory. Thursday nights Ryder Cup Pep Rally at 4th Street Live provided such a motivational atmosphere when the 5,000 plus fans enthusiastically embraced their Ryder Cup team. Combine this with the University of Louisville Pep Band playing their fight sounds plus the entire cheerleader squad helping to raise the roof and victory was definitely on the horizon.
Team North America wins inaugural Humana Fightmaster Cup
Team North America 19 ˝ / Team Europe 8˝
Cardinal Club, Louisville - In conditions ranging from very difficult to almost impossible, Team North America beat Team Europe and the wind to score a convincing win the inaugural Humana Fightmaster Cup by 19 ˝ points to 8˝.
As high winds gusting up to 75 miles an hour swept across Kentucky, the Sunday singles matches got under way in conditions that were a new experience even for most of Team Europe. The best that could be said about it was that at least it wasn’t raining.
However, there was no let up in the commitment of the players and the excitement the matches generated as Team North America sought the 3 ˝ points it needed to lift the trophy. The cup was not decided until just before 4pm, almost six hours after the singles matches started, when John Getchell sunk a short putt to halve the 18th and win his match with Ireland’s Michael O’Grady.
